Después de hacer un pequeño repaso por los nuevos sonidos nacionales, esta semana nos vamos hasta Canadá para traerles nuestro nuevo estreno. Se trata de nuestros amigos de Passport Radio, una nueva banda de Toronto que nos presenta su más reciente EP: Downtown, para darle a esta mitad de semana una descarga de surf / lo-fi con algo de balada.
After our last week review of new national sounds, this week we’re going to Canada to bring you our new release. This week it’s about our friends from Passport Radio, a band from Toronto which presents their latest EP: Downtown, to give this wednesday a shock of surf / lofi and a little bit of ballad.
Passport Radio empezó como un proyecto en solitario de Alex Fecioru, pero con el tiempo se fue convirtiendo en una banda. Antes de que Alex formase el grupo, nos cuenta, estuvo en algún otro par de bandas y colaboró con distintos proyectos. Pero se dio cuenta que lo que en realidad buscaba era poder desarrollar su proyecto creativo libremente, el cual siempre ha estado influenciado por bandas como The Strokes, Twin Speaks, The Walters, Goodbye Honolulu y VEINS.
Passport Radio begun as a solo project from the musician Alex Fecioru, but with the time it started becoming in a band. Before Alex made the band, he told us, was in some other bands and collaborated with other musicians. But he realized that actually what he was looking for was to make his own music, which has always been influenced by The Strokes, Twin Speaks, The Walters, Goodbye Honolulu and VEINS.
A principios de verano, más o menos por el mes de julio, el sello independiente Fried Records le dio la oportunidad a Alex de hacer el release de su primer sencillo: Sea Change. A partir de ese momento Alex comenzó su proceso de grabación y hasta el lunes de esta semana fue que nos presentó Downtown.
In early summer, in june/july, the independent label Fried Records gave Alex the opportunity to release his first single: Sea Change. From that moment, Alex began to record the EP and, on monday, he made the official release of Downtown.
Este EP trata sobre los cambios que se produjeron en la vida de Alex después de terminar con su novia; toda la onda de esa ruptura la fue alejando de sí mismo con el descubrimiento del centro de la ciudad como un espacio que le ofrecía la oportunidad de conocer una nueva parte de la ciudad que nunca antes había visto.
This EP it’s about the changes in Alex’s life after breaking up with his long-term girlfriend. All the vibe of this breaking up moved away when Alex realized that he just needed to discover some new spaces that the downtown have as an opportunity to see new things from other pespective.

«I began writing it with Sea Change just to kinda test the waters and pick up a vibe and I thought it did pretty well so I kept going. Started writing it after I broke up with my long term girlfriend and its kinda just about being like in your late teens and just discovering that downtown vibe and all the cool places and a journey of getting out of that post-breakup sadness. Its cool cause it tells a story as you keep listening but you can also just play air guitar while jumping on your bed and get hyped while you listen to some loud angsty music.»
